Hello everyone, I am looking for a bit of advice. I am thinking about becoming a certified as a personal trainer and wanted to know if anyone is certified. How is the process? I dont know anyone personally who is already certified so I was looking for a bit of advice.
Thanks!
Cheryl
Hi Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteI am also interested in becoming a certified personal trainer. I have done a little research on the various certifications. The National Academy of Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine seem to be the top two personal training certifications. They are in competition with one another for the top spot. People suggest to learn more about the philosophy of these organizations and chose the certification that best matches their beliefs. Based on the certification you choose, study guides will be suggested for purchase and there may be workshops to help you understand the material. This will help you pass the test. Rates vary and depend on the certification. NASM requires re-certification every two years and the ACSM requires it every three. ACSM also requires continuing education and I am unsure if NASM does.
I hope this helps a little bit. I wish I knew more. Maybe someone in our class can give us both some better insight!
HI Janelle, thank you very much for you help. I have looked into both of these organizations. The materical seems a bit complicated and I would need a little help understanding it. The workshops seem like a great way to interact with other to answer any question. Thank you for you advice.

Check out ACE certification. It is well respected and relatively easy. I just bought all the study material and practice exams. Then you just have to have a professional CPR/AED certification and you can sit for the exam.
